WSOP $10,000 World Championship Main Event - Day 2b Update
July 10th, 2008
The 2008 WSOP $10,000 World Championship Main Event continued yesterday with the second and final instalment of the second round. With Day 2b now done and dusted, an estimated 1,308 players will be making it through to Day 3.
A total of 2,379 players took the tables at the start of Day2b hoping to make the cut and join the survivors from yesterday for a place in Day 2a. Only an estimated 855 of those players would survive the day however.
One player who would not be returning was defending champion Jerry Yang, who got all in on A J only to lose out to his opponent’s A 9. This means that there will be a new WSOP Main Event champion this year.
A few distinguished pro’s also failed to get through the day including Sorel Mizzi who came up short against Brett Jungblut’s pocket kings, while Joe Hachem’s flush draw failed to materialise knocking him out of the event. Also out of the championship are Shannon Elizabeth, Archie ‘The Greek’ Karas, Isabelle Mercier, Steve Wong, Phil Laak, David Sklansky, David Tran, and Carlos Mortenson.
Those still in with a chance of glory include Phil Hellmuth, Nenad Medic, Mike Matusow and Gus Hansen. Out on top of the chip stacks is Alex Outhred, ahead of Peter Biebel and Raja Kattamuri.
