WSOP $10,000 World Championship Main Event - Day 2a Update
July 9th, 2008
The 2008 WSOP $10,000 World Championship Main Event was back in action yesterday after a day’s break with the remaining 3,663 players returning to the Rio Hotel & Casino for Day 2 of the biggest event in town. Day 2 was split into two days of play to accommodate the large number of players, with a host of star names looking to be among the early leaders into Day 3.
Those that wouldn’t make it that far included Anna Wrobelwski, Greg Mueller, Lee Markholt, Trond Eidsvig, Victoria Coren, Joe Beevers, Shaun Deeb, Ted Lawson, Scotty Nguyen, Jimmy Fricke, Perry Friedman, and Paul Wasicka.
Also eliminated was Alex Bolotin, whose A K couldn’t hold up to Tam Gourlay’s pocket aces, while WSOP Player of the Year Erick Lindgren couldn’t get past Brian Brubaker’s pocket sevens. Billy Baxter was bested by Kellen Hunter’s pocket queens, Neil Channing’s pocket tens didn’t hold out, and Barry Greenstein lost out to a higher card.
An eventful day’s play left around 500 players remaining, who will return for Day 3’s play along with the survivors from tomorrow’s Day 2b. Still there at the end of the day were Robert Mizrachi, Erik Seidel, Hoyt Corkins, Thor Hansen, Matt Glantz, former Aussie cricketer Shane Warne, and Patrik Antonius.
Chip leader at the moment is Brian Schaedlich, with Jeremiah Smith and Hunter Frey the nearest challengers.
Chip stacks at the end of Day2a:
Brian Schaedlich – 745,000
