The World Poker Tour returns to action later this month with the seventh season of the long-running tour. The new season will start off in Barcelona for the WPT Spanish Championship beginning on May 21st.

The tournament features a €200 buy-in Super Satellite No Limit Hold’em on May 21st/22nd. The €5000 buy-in main event begins at the Casino Barcelona on May 23rd and will conclude the final table on May 27th. The event will not be filmed for television. The tournament will begin with two starting days as is common in most WPT events.

Expected amongst the crowd of poker pro’s at the event will be Antonio Esfandiari and Finland’s Juha Helppi.

"Since the moment I left Barcelona two years ago, I have waited for the opportunity to return," said Esfandiari. "It is such a beautiful city with incredible history-you couldn’t ask for a better backdrop for an international WPT tournament. The Spanish Championship drew a tough field last year, and I expect the competition to be even bigger and better this season."

Antonio Esfandiari recently finished 8th at the European Poker Tour Grand Final earlier this year earning €168,000 for his troubles.

The WPT has appointed Thomas Kremser to be tournament director for this year’s WPT Spanish Championship.
