WPT Ladies Championship Final Table Set To Begin

The World Poker Tour Ladies season is almost over as the final table for the inaugural WPT Ladies Championship begins later today. As the main WPT World Championship event takes a day off, it is the ladies’ turn to get back to The Bellagio for the televised final table.

The $1,500 buy-in event, a record for a ladies event, has caused controversy following its announcement that 15% of each of the $1,500 buy-ins for the Championship event would be donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure charity, instead of gathering donations from the players.

The announcement led to several players boycotting the event, including Susie Isaacs, former WSOP Ladies event winner, and Lisa Adams, host of the radio show Poker Talk America. Both players claimed that the event should have been reclassified as a charity event since the amount donated to charity is being withheld from the prize money fund.

Despite this distraction, the tournament went ahead with several professional and semi-professional ladies players taking part, including the likes of Jennifer Tilly, Evelyn Ng, Erica Schoenberg, Linda Johnson, Vanessa Selbst, and Van Nguyen, the first women to win a WPT event last month at the recent WPT Celebrity Invitational event.

As the 150 entrants got down to the final table, it was Vanessa Selbst with the chip lead over Nancy Todd Tyner, with Van Nguyen still in with a chance of winning the WPT Ladies Championship.

Final table standings:

Vanessa Selbst - 182,200
Nancy Todd Tyner - 107,400
Donna Varlotto - 68,600
Van Nguyen - 42,300
Janice Kim - 32,900
Cindy Kerslake - 16,400
