Tran’s Dominate Final Table for Event 7 of 2008 WSOP

By News Provider
June 6th, 2008

The final table has been set in the $2,000 No Limit Hold’em event, the seventh event of this year’s WSOP. With a mammoth 1,592 entrants, 61 more than in last year’s event, the action has been fierce over the past two days play, with plenty of eliminations and players’ dreams of WSOP glory going up in smoke.

Only 152 players made it through Day 1 with Theo Tran taking early control of proceedings to take the chip lead, closely followed by Nick Romano, and Scott Montgomery. Those not making it through the day included Dario Minieri, Jennifer Tilly, Antonio Esfandiari, Phil Laak, and Men Nguyen.

Heading into Day 2, the 152 survivors from Day 1 returned to the table. All 152 would be within the money bubble and collecting some sort of cash prize. Only nine would make it through to the final table however. Those falling by the wayside included Nancy Todd Tyner, Kai Danilo Paulsen, Philip Siegel, Scott Montgomery, Dustin Woolf, and Thong Tran.

The final table narrowly missed out on having three unrelated "Tran’s" with Thong Tran’s elimination. Theo Tran takes the mantle of chip leader going into tomorrow’s final.

Final table chip stacks:

Theo Tran - 1,884,000
Mihai Manole - 1,020,000
Matt Keikoan - 1,011,000
Carter Gill - 652,000
Shannon Shorr - 620,000
Mike Lisanti - 358,000
Alex Bolotin - 345,000
J.C Tran - 273,000
Chris Bjorin - 205,000
