Ralph Porter Takes Down Event 9 of 2008 WSOP

Ralph Porter has won Event 9 of the 2008 WSOP after defeating five of his fellow poker professionals in the final table of the $1,500 No Limit Hold’em/Six Handed event.

At the start of the event on Day 1, 1,236 players took part with only 71 players making it through the day. A total prize pool of over $1.6 million was raised with the winner to take home a cool $372,843. Ralph Porter was among the top of the leaderboard from the start finishing up second in chip stacks at the end of Day 1.

At the end of Day 2, those 71 players had been whittled down to just 6, with John Conkright holding the chip lead and Ralph Porter back in third.

Chip stacks for the final table looked like this:

Michiel Brummelhuis - 883,000
Ralph Porter - 732,000
Nathan Templeton - 449,000
Devin Porter - 357,000
Anthony Shilyuk - 310,000

After a steady start to proceedings, the first elimination took place on the 28th hand. Michiel Brummelhuis’ two pair of aces and fours falling to John Conkright’s aces and jacks. Next to go was Anatoly Shilyuk followed by John Conkright. When Devin Porter was eliminated by Nathan Templeton, it left heads-up play between himself and Porter.

A few hands later it was all over. Templeton went all-in with K 9 against Porter’s K Q and with no help from the remaining cards, Ralph Porter won the title, a $372,843 payday and the coveted WSOP bracelet.
