PPA Member Wins Seat at 2008 WSOP Main Event

Gearl Seal of Prineville, Oregon, has won a seat at the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event as result of a contest that was part of the Poker Players Alliance’s (PPA), the leading poker grassroots advocacy group, campaign unveiling enhanced membership benefits and its new website.

"It’s pretty exciting to be able to say I am playing in the WSOP. I still can’t believe I won," said Mr Seal. "I joined PPA because I like playing poker and I don’t think the government has a right to tell me I can’t play. We need representation so we have the freedom to play. Winning this contest is just icing on the cake."

Mr Seal works as a drug and alcohol counsellor, and started playing poker when he was in his teens and continued to hone his skills by playing poker online and in live tournaments. While his favourite game is Texas Hold’em, Mr Seal enjoys playing all varieties of poker as well as other card games. Mr Seal has never been to Las Vegas, and is looking forward to bringing his wife, children and grandchildren with him when he plays in the Main Event.

Mr Seal was one of thousands of poker enthusiasts who joined the PPA as a fee-paying member before the June 10th deadline and made a purchase through OneBigPlanet, which powers the PPA member benefits program. All sign-ups were entered into a contest to win a fully paid $10,000 buy-in for a seat at the main event at the WSOP.

Former Senator and chairman of the PPA Alfonse D’Amato said: "I welcome Gearl as a member of the PPA, and look forward to cheering him on during the WSOP Main Event."
