Michael Rocco Takes Home 2008 WSOP Event 35
June 22nd, 2008
Michael Rocco has won his first ever WSOP bracelet with his heads-up defeat of Al Barbieri in the $1,500 Seven Card Stud Event #35. As well as the coveted bracelet, he also takes with him $135,753 as a first place prize.
At the start of the final table’s play, Rocco held the chip lead over Barbieri and Jeffrey Siegal:
Michael Rocco - 255,000
Al Barbieri - 252,500
Jeffrey Siegal - 150,000
Giacomo D’Agostino - 123,000
Levon Torosyan - 114,500
Andre Boyer - 106,000
Max Troy - 88,500
Danny Kalpakis - 55,000
Out first was Jeffrey Siegal, his aces not enough against Max Troy’s triple sevens. Andre Boyer followed soon after, with Danny Kalpakis also being eliminated. Rocco then saw off Giacomo D’Agostino with triple aces before Levon Torosyan’s full house saw off Max Troy.
With just three left to play Torosyan was bested by Rocco to leave heads-up play between Barbieri and Rocco. An even contest was soon dominated by Rocco and after winning a few big hands Barbieri was finally put all-in. A pair of kings gave Michael Rocco the victory however and he takes the golden bracelet as well as $135,753 in winnings.
Final Standings:
Michael Rocco - $135,753
Al Barbieri - $83,210
Levon Torosyan - $50,186
Max Troy - $37,184
Giacomo D’Agostino - $28,083
Danny Kalpakis - $21,842
