Michael Banducci Takes Home Event 5 of 2008 WSOP

Michael Banducci has won the $1,000 No Limit Hold’em w/Rebuys event which concluded late last night. It is his first ever victory at the WSOP having previously reached only one WSOP final table and seven previous cashes.
At the start of the final table, the chip stacks were as follows:

Lyric Duveyoung - 700,000
Peter Gould - 670,000
Jeff Williams - 640,000

Jonathan Aquiar - 386,000

Within five hands, Lyric Duveyoung removed both Steve Gross and Jamie Rosen from play, his pocket queens proving too strong for both players who had been all-in. Next to be eliminated was Michael Binger, who couldn’t cope with Jeff Williams’ two pair of kings and eights.
Jeff Williams then saw off Jonathan Aguiar with another two pair hand, this time with jacks and eights, soon followed by Alan Jaffray’s elimination at the hands of Michael Banducci’s triple queens.
With only four players left to play, Lyric Duveyoung was next to go, coming up short against Peter Gould’s two pair of kings and tens. Gould himself was then eliminated, Banducci’s triple sevens too much for him to handle. This left heads-up play between Banducci and Jeff Williams, with Banducci overwhelming favourite with nearly fives times as many chips as Williams.
Eventually Williams was all-in with A (Clubs) 5 (Diamonds) to Banducci’s A (Diamonds) J (Clubs). The flop brought no help to Williams, and Banducci won the hand to take the title and a $636,736 payday. Michael Banducci overcame a total of 766 players to win this event.
