July 1st, 2008

Max Greenwood eliminated Rene Mouritsen to claim his first ever WSOP title in the $1,000 No Limit Hold’em w/Rebuys Event #44. A total of 879 entrants with over 2,500 rebuys between them created a total prize pool of over $3.2 million, with Greenwood taking home $693,444 as his share of the winnings.

After a late run in Day 2’s play Jesse Chinni held a 2:1 chip lead over his nearest competitor Rene Mouritsen:

Seat 1 - Scott Freeman - 675,000
Seat 2 - Max Greenwood - 728,000
Seat 3 - Curtis Kohlberg - 209,000
Seat 4 - Rene Mouritsen - 1,007,000
Seat 5 - Alex Bolotin - 308,000
Seat 6 - Albert Iversen - 921,000
Seat 7 - Aliaksandr Dzianisau - 186,000
Seat 8 - Phung Ngo - 556,000
Seat 9 - Jesse Chinni - 2,160,000

Alex Bolotin was first to be eliminated, coming up short against Albert Iversen’s two pair of aces and tens. Phung Ngo was next to go, Rene Mouritsen’s pair of aces holding up to give him the hand. Max Greenwood then accounted for Curtis Kohlberg, before Iverson’s full house of jacks and aces saw off Aliaksandr Dzianisau.

Jesse Chinni’s luck finally ran out against Mouritsen’s pocket aces, and once Scott Freeman moved all-in against Mouritsen only to lose out on a lower card, there were only three players left at the table. Once Iversen was sent out in 3rd place following Mouritsen’s flush, it was down to heads-up play between Greenwood and Mouritsen.

Despite being behind on the chip count it was Greenwood who dominated the heads-up play and eventually won the bracelet when a four on the turn gave him two pairs of jacks and fours and the victory. Rene Mouritsen takes home $445,523 as consolation.

Final Standings:

Max Greenwood - $693,392
Rene Mouritsen - $445,523
Albert Iversen - $267,314
Scott Freeman - $223,572
Jesse Chinni - $183,069
Aleksandr Dzianisau - $144,187
Curtis Kohlberg - $111,786
Phung Ngo - $87,484
Alex Bolotin - $63,183
