Jose Velador Wins 2008 WSOP Event 32
June 20th, 2008
Jose Luis Velador has won his first WSOP bracelet after a dominant display of poker in the $1,500 No Limit Hold’em Event #32. A total of 2,304 entrants took to the tables at the start of the event, creating a total prize pool of over $3.1 million. Jose Velador’s victory gives him $574,734 as a first place prize.
Chip stacks at the start of the final table:
Seat 1 - Dean Bui - 211,000
Seat 2 - Justin Hoffman - 138,000
Seat 3 - Jose Luis Velador - 1,898,000
Seat 4 - Dany Georges - 1,082,000
Seat 5 - Utsab Saha - 961,000
Seat 6 - Jae Chung - 701,000
Seat 7 - Shane Stacey - 640,000
Seat 8 - Osmin Dardon - 660,000
Seat 9 - Anthony Signore - 636,000
First to be eliminated was Justin Hoffman, Dean Bui’s king high enough to take the hand. Utsab Saha was next to go, Jose Luis Velador extending his chip lead with pocket queens to end Saha’s contest. Dany Georges was then bested by Bui’s pocket sixes before Bui himself was then eliminated by Velador’s triple kings.
Shane Stacey’s elimination in 5th place by Osmin Dardon’s straight then left only four players left standing. A chopped pot between Dardon and Velador saw off Jae Chung, and once Velador knocked out Dardon on a hearts flush, it was down to heads-up play between Velador and Signore.
Velador’s dominating display gave him victory in the end, despite an impressive fight back by Anthony Signore. In the end Velador’s two pair of aces and sevens was just enough to edge out Signore’s aces and sixes. Jose Luis Velador wins his first ever WSOP bracelet and $574,734 in winnings.
