John Phan Claims Second Bracelet at 2008 WSOP
June 25th, 2008
John Phan has claimed his second WSOP bracelet in a week with his victory in the $2,500 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball-Limit Event #40. Only last week he won his first ever bracelet in the $3,000 No Limit Hold’em Event #29.
John Phan two bracelets in seven days only just misses out on a WSOP record as both Jeff Madsen and Mark Seif have won two bracelets within the space of six days.
Out of the total of 238 players who entered the event, only six remained to take their place at the final table:
Seat 1 - Ben Ponzio - 113,000
Seat 2 - Shun Uchida - 200,000
Seat 3 - David Sklansky - 78,000
Seat 4 - Gioi Luong - 291,000
Seat 5 - Robert Mizrachi - 215,000
Seat 6 - John Phan - 294,000
David Sklansky was the first player to leave the final table, unable to improve on his short stack and falling to Robert Mizrachi. Ben Ponzio was out next running into chip leader John Phan, before Mizrachi was eliminated at the hands of Gioi Luong.
With only three players left Gioi Luong was eliminated by Phan leaving heads-up between Shun Uchida and Phan. With the chips fairly evenly stacked, John Phan soon started to dominate. As he built up a clear chip lead Uchida began to struggle until ultimately it was all over for Uchida. Phan takes home $151,896 as his reward as he becomes the first player at this year’s WSOP to win two bracelets.
Final Standings:
John Phan - $151,911
Shun Uchida - $95,795
Gioi Luong - $61,582
Robert Mizrachi - $41,055
Ben Ponzio - $28,738
David Sklansky - $ 20,527
