Jimmy Shultz Claims 2008 WSOP Event 12
June 10th, 2008
Jimmy Shultz has won the $1,500 Limit Hold’em Event 12 with a heads-up victory against fellow poker pro Zachary Fellows. Shultz’s flush gave him the title and a $275,105 payday to take home along with the coveted golden bracelet.
The event saw a large number of participants, with 880 registering for the $1,500 buy-in event creating a total prize pool over $1.2 million. Last year’s event was won by Gary Styczynski who beat Varouzhan Gumoyan for the $280,715 first place prize.
Among those who wouldn’t make it through Day 1 included Justin Bonomo, Phil Hellmuth, and J.C Tran. Only 179 players remained to make it into Day 2 with the top 81 finishers to be inside the money bubble.
Also out in Day 2 after a lengthy day’s play were Tom Schneider and Victor Ramdin as 18 players made it through to the final day. The final table was eventually set during the final day’s play, but Erick Lindgren, winner of 2008 WSOP Event 4, just missed out.
With eliminations at the final table coming thick and fast, it was eventually down to just Jimmy Shultz and Zachary Fellows. Fellows’ pocket threes were too low to compete with Shultz’s flush and Jimmy Shultz was finally the WSOP Event 12 winner. He takes home $275,105 and a brand new bracelet.
Final Standings:
Jimmy Shultz - $257,049
Zachary Fellows - $165,165
Vinny Vinh - $99,099
Teddy Monroe - $82,883
Brendan Taylor - $67,868
Marcus Golser - $53,453
Ali Eslami - $ 41,441
Christopher Niesert - $32,432
