J.C Tran has claimed his maiden WSOP victory in the $1,500 No Limit Hold’em Event #49. With 2,718 entrants to the event creating a total prize pool of over $3.7 million, J.C Tran takes home $631,053 as first place prize.

At the start of the final table it was Rasmus Nielsen who was the chip leader, with J.C Tran and Joe Pelton the closest challengers:

Seat 1 - Christoph Kohnen - 293,000
Seat 2 - Joe Pelton - 1,093,000
Seat 3 - Jesper Hoog - 320,000
Seat 4 - John Conroy - 501,000
Seat 5 - Robert Kalb - 456,000
Seat 6 - J.C Tran - 1,438,000
Seat 7 - Chad Siu - 185,000
Seat 8 - Peter Nguyen - 870,000
Seat 9 - Rasmus Nielsen - 2,998,000

First to be eliminated was Christoph Kohnen, falling to John Conroy’s straight on the river. Robert Kalb was next to go, Rasmus Nielsen’s queen high proving just enough to win the hand. Soon after Jesper Hoog left the table after Nguyen’s ace saw him off.

Chad Siu was then eliminated by Joe Pelton’s pair of nines on the river to leave five players left with a chance of victory. Tran then saw off Pelton with a pair of kings, before Peter Nguyen was unluckily despatched by Rasmus Nielsen. Nguyen flopped triple sevens but was left astounded when the turn and river cards were both kings, giving Nielsen triple kings and the hand.

Nielsen then knocked out John Conroy with a pair of eights to leave heads-up play between Nielsen and Tran. Nielsen held a big chip lead but it was Tran who started to dominate proceedings and take over the chip lead. At the end it came down to Tran’s K Q against Nielsen’s Q J. The king held out and J.C Tran finally had his long sought after WSOP bracelet.

Final Standing:

J.C Tran - $631,170
Rasmus Nielsen - $389,557
John Conroy - $278,255
Peter Nguyen - $233,734
Joe Pelton - $191,068
Chad Siu - $150,257
Jasper Hoog - $113,157
Robert Kalb - $85,331
Christoph Kohnen - $58,248
