Jason Young Wins $1,500 No Limit Hold’em Shootout Event 17
June 12th, 2008
Jason Young has won his first WSOP bracelet at the $1,500 No Limit Hold’em Shootout event, defeating Michael Schwartz heads-up to claim the $335,565 first place prize. The tournament was capped at 1,000 players creating a total prize pool of over $1.36 million.
At the start of the final day’s play all players began with 300,000 chips for this shootout event. After losing a huge pot to Sergey Rybachenko, a few hands later Casey Coleman was first to be eliminated, Michael Schwartz’s pocket eights doing the damage. Alexander Triner was next to go, his jacks just short of John Strzemp’s queens.
Thomas West came up against chip leader Jason Young and was sent out of the tournament, his A Q bettered by Young’s A K. Next to go was Sergey Rybachenko and Kyle Bowker, both sent out by Schwartz in the same hand. With only five left to play, Matthew Gianetti also fell to Schwartz, with Rory Monahan and the elimination of John Strzemp leaving heads-up between Young and Schwartz.
Finally it was to be Jason Young’s night. Going all-in with A J, the hand held on to beat Michael Schwartz’s pocket fours. After two long days of poker play, the event finally came to an end. Jason Young is the new champion of Event 17 of this year’s WSOP.
