Norwegian Poker Championships Moved to UK for Fear of Police Action

Organisers of the 2008 Norwegian Poker Championships, due to begin later this month, have moved the event to Nottingham, England, in the interest of player protection. The 7th annual event has moved away from Norway as under Norwegian Law, anyone found playing poker could be liable to criminal prosecution.

The championships will now take place at the Dusk Til Dawn club in Nottingham from April 28th until May 5th. With over 400 Norwegian poker players expected to make the trip, a plane is being made available flying direct from Oslo to Nottingham, and several hotels in the city have been chosen specifically to accommodate the players.

The main event has a £500 buy-in, with a number of lesser buy-in events also running at the tournament.

Notable Norwegians taking part in the tournament include Annette Obrestad, the youngest person to ever win a World Series of Poker bracelet, having won the 2007 WSOP Europe event last year at the age of eighteen.
