Neil Channing Wins 2008 Irish Open

At the 2008 Irish Open, Neil Channing held onto his final table chip lead to come out on top over 666 other players to win the title and a €800,000 payday.   

The tournament saw a host of poker celebrities fly in and quickly fly out, those eliminated early on included the likes of Doyle Brunson, Padraig Parkinson, Jennifer Tilly, Phil Laak, Sorel Mizzi, Andy Black and last year’s champion Marty Smyth.  

After an eventful first few days of play at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin the final table was as follows:   

Neil Channing                $2,748,000 

Donal Norton                 $1,164,000 

Tim Blake                       $921,000 

Kai Danilo Paulsen         $716,000 

Edwin Tournier              $562,000 

Thomas Dunwoodie        $544,000  

First to leave the final table was Edwin Tournier, coming out short against Donal Norton. Next to go was Kai Paulsen, followed by Tim Blake and Thomas Dunwoodie, leaving Norton and Channing for the heads-up play. It was Neil Channing who would come out strongest to win the title and the biggest win of his career.

Thomas Dunwoodie, UK             €275,000 

Tim Blake, UK                             €220,000 

Kai Paulson, Norway                  €175,000 

Edwin Tournier, Holland             €135,000
