Gala Casinos British Poker Tour Kicks Off This Month

By News Provider
February 4th, 2008

The Great British Poker Tour begins this month for its second full season, now re-branded as Gala Casinos British Poker Tour (GCBPT). The tour will give players a chance to win over £1million in prizes and the chance to be crowned the new Gala Casino British Poker Champion 2008.

Last year’s inaugural tour included 2,257 entrants in total and over £870,000 in cash prizes, won by  poker professional Joe Beevers who played the final table against amateur player Rob Akery. This year’s tour is expecting even more entrants and higher cash prizes.

There are 5 regional festivals throughout 2008 with each regional winner going through to the Grand Final at Gala Casino Harbourside in Bristol in December.

The first regional festival kicks off at Edinburgh’s Maybury Casino on February 27th with an estimated £150,000 prize pool, the highlight being the 3-day £500+£50 No Limit Hold Em Freeze-out Main Event, with £5,000 cash added by Gala Casinos. At each event there will also be lower buy-in events for less experienced poker players to enjoy.

The schedule has been carefully arranged so as not to clash with any other 2008 poker tournaments. The full list of festivals is as follows:

Feb. 27th – Mar. 2nd       Gala Maybury Casino, Edinburgh

April 16th – 20th              Gala Casino Maid Marian Way, Nottingham

June 18 – 22nd                Gala Harbourside Casino, Bristol

Sept. 17th – 21st             Gala Casino, Liverpool

Oct. 22nd – 26th             Gala Casino, Stockton-on-Tees

Dec. 1st – 7th                  Grand Final, Gala Harbourside Casinos, Bristol

Through the online Gala Casino site, with weekly finals on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, there are 4 guaranteed packages worth $1,600 (including GCBPT Main Event buy-in plus travel and hotel expenses) that can be won.

Live qualification events are also available in 14 Gala Casino across the country, with 50 seats to be won. There is also a limited direct buy-in to the Main Event.

Mark O’Donnell, Gala Casinos British Poker Tour Manager, said: “What sets us apart is that we attract the best poker talent from across Britain and Europe alongside amateur players and relative newcomers to the game. The tour promises to have something for everyone – nail-biting clashes, absolute professionalism and the unique Gala Casinos atmosphere of the live events. A prize at the final table is genuinely within everyone’s grasp. The Gala Casinos British Poker Tour really is the people’s poker tour.”
