April 3rd, 2008
The European Poker Tour heads to Italy for the latest event in season 2008 with the EPT San Remo Championship, the final event before the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo later this month. This is the first time the EPT is taking place in San Remo.
With over 700 poker players at the Casino Sanremo for the €4,700 buy-in event, the estimated first place prize is expected to be over €1.3million from a total prize pool of over €3million.
After a gruelling 2 days of poker to cover the first round of play, 702 players have taken to the tables in an effort to become champion and take home the winner’s cheque. Day 1A saw 350 entrants take to the table. Eliminations during the day’s play included Peter Jepsen (winner of 2007 EPT Warsaw), Julian Thew (winner of 2008 EPT Baden Classic), Patrik Antonius and Mel Judah.
Day 1B saw the remaining players enter the fray. Those not making the cut included Bertrand Grospellier (winner of 2008 EPT Caribbean Adventure), Michael McDonald (winner of 2008 EPT German Open), Arnaud Mattern (winner of 2008 EPT Prague), Vanessa Rousso, Trond Eisdvig and Thierry van den Berg.
Only 207 players remain for the start of Day 2’s play, including amongst others Brandon Schaefer, Roland De Wolfe, Thor Hansen, and Daniel Negreanu.
