Erik Seidel Wins 2008 Foxwoods Poker Classic

Erik Seidel, winner of eight WSOP bracelets, finally won his long awaited WPT title with victory at the 2008 Foxwoods Poker Classic. The tournament saw 333 poker players of all player levels enter, creating a total prize pool of over $3 million and a first place prize of $992,890.
Chip stacks at the start of play were as follows:
Erik Seidel - 3,280,000
Ted Forrest - 2,347,000
Adam Katz - 2,301,000
Andrew Barta - 1,522,000
Robert Richardson - 526,000
Frank Cieri - 403,000
Ted Forrest was the first player to leave the table, falling short against Robert Richardson, with Adam Katz next to go. Frank Cieri fell next to Richardson to leave three players fighting it out. 6 hours of play later Erik Seidel pushed out Andrew Barta to leave heads-up between Seidel and Richardson.
On the first hand of heads-up play, Richardson called ‘all-in’ but it was Seidel who had the better hand and clinched the WPT title, the first place prize of $992,890 and a $25,000 seat at the WPT World Championship.
The WPT tour moves onto the final event of Season VI later this month for the WPT World Championship beginning on April 19th 2008. Last year’s event saw 639 of the biggest names in poker enter, creating a prize pool of over $15 million. Carlos Mortensen won the title and the biggest first place prize in WPT history of nearly $4 million.
