April 7th, 2008
At the Casino Sanremo, Jason Mercier has won the European Poker Tour San Remo Championship in only his second live event. The 21 year old American, who qualified for the event online, finished ahead of 701 other players to take the €869,000 first place prize.
At the start of the final day’s play chip stacks were as follows:
Dario Minieri 1,832,000
Jason Mercier 1,591,000
Anothony Lellouche 1,192,000
Gregory Genovese 694,000
Dag Palovic 585,000
Eric Koskas 449,000
William Thorson 418,000
Marcus Bower 278,000
Marcus Bower was the first to go, coming up short against Anthony Lellouche, followed by Dag Palovic who was knocked out by Dario Minieri. William Thorson was next to go, losing out to Jason Mercier, who then knocked out Gregory Genovese and Eric Koskas.
Mercier then got all in against Minieri and had enough to send Minieri out in 3rd place. Mercier had a 4:1 chip lead going into heads-up play with Lellouche and soon afterwards Lellouche was sent packing, making it one of the fastest final tables in EPT history.
Jason Mercier takes home €869,000, the EPT San Remo title, and a €10,000 seat at the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo later this month.
