At the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, the 2008 WSOP $3,000 H.O.R.S.E event has recently concluded with German poker professional Jens Voertmann defeating Douglas Ganger heads-up to take the title and his first WSOP golden bracelet.

A total of 414 entrants took part in the event on Day 1, and following a long session of play on Day 2 finishing up in the early hours, 16 players were left to play out the final day. In amongst the 16 players were a number of high profile poker pro’s including Todd Brunson, Hoyt Corkins, Eric Froehlich and Jennifer Harman.

Marcel Luske held the chip lead going into the final day, with Jared Davis and Jennifer Harman close behind. A spate of early eliminations followed by Todd Brunson, two-time WSOP bracelet winner Eric Froehlich, and Paul Zimbler’s eliminations saw the final table of eight set.

Final table:

Seat 1 - Rostislav Tsodikov - 140,000
Seat 2 - Douglas Ganger - 405,000
Seat 3 - Jennifer Harman - 271,000
Seat 4 - Steve Zolotow - 180,000
Seat 5 - Jens Voertmann - 485,000
Seat 6 - Jared Davis - 185,000
Seat 7 - Hoyt Corkins - 595,000
Seat 8 - Marcel Luske - 572,000

First to leave the table was Jennifer Harman, closely followed by Rostislav Tsodikov. Steve Zolotow was then bested by Hoyt Corkins’ flush hand, while Jared Davis fared no better against Jens Voertmann’s triple aces to leave only four players left to fight for the title.

Two-time WSOP bracelet winner Hoyt Corkins then fell to Marcel Luske’s triple aces, who then put up a brave fight before finally being eliminated by Voertmann to leave heads-up play between Douglas Ganger and Voertmann.

Voertmann had a 2:1 chip lead at this stage, but Luske immediately fought back to take the chip lead. Voertmann then took a huge pot off Luske and shortly afterwards won his first WSOP title when his jacks held up to beat Ganger’s nines. Voertmann takes home $298,253 as his reward as well as the coveted golden bracelet.

Final Standings:
