Frank Gary Wins 2008 WSOP Event 41
June 25th, 2008
Frank Gary has picked up his first ever WSOP bracelet with victory in the $1,500 Mixed Hold’em Limit/No Limit Event #41. His win over a total field of 731 players gives him $219,508 in prize money along with the elusive golden bracelet.
Mats Gavatin held the chip lead at the start of the day from Nick Binger, brother of fellow poker pro Michael Binger:
Seat 1 - Chris Rentes - 132,000
Seat 2 - Michael Chu - 264,500
Seat 3 - Alex Jalali - 204,000
Seat 4 - Nick Binger - 339,000
Seat 5 - David MacHowsky - 147,500
Seat 6 - Jonathan Tamayo - 238,500
Seat 7 - Mats Gavatin - 405,000
Seat 8 - Frank Gary - 332,000
Seat 9 - David Sorger - 130,000
First to be eliminated was David Sorger, Nick Binger’s ace proving to be enough to win the hand. Michael Chu was out soon after, another victim of Binger this time with a pair of tens. Binger then saw off Mats Gavatin with triple sevens, and then knocked out David MacHowsky with a full house of aces and kings. At this stage Binger had not lost a single hand he had been involved in and had half of all the chips in play.
Binger then saw off Alex Jalali with pocket jacks, and then eliminated Chris Rentes with a mere seven high card. Binger held a big chip lead at this stage but Jonathan Tamayo began to fight back and reclaimed the lead after winning some big pots from Binger. Tamayo then saw off Binger with pocket queens to leave heads-up between Frank Gary and Tamayo.
Gary then took control of proceedings and crippled Tamayo with two pair of jacks and eights, before finally finishing off next hand with a pair of aces. Frank Gary takes home $219,508 as first place prize, while Tamayo leaves with $140,093.
Final Standings:
Frank Gary - $219,562
Jonathan Tamayo - $140,093
Nick Binger - $84,814
Chris Rentes - $69,348
Alex Jalali - $56,875
