Final Table Set at 2008 WSOP Main Event
July 15th, 2008
The final table has been set for the 2008 World Series of Poker $10,000 World Championship Main Event after a long and exciting day’s play at the Rio Hotel & Casino. It took the 27 players who returned to the tables for Day 7 until the early hours of this morning to be whittled down to the final nine players, or the ‘November Nine’ as they are now known as until the final table commences in November.
The day began with Dennis Phillips the clear chip leader, ahead of Craig Marquis and Tiffany Michelle. Michael Carroll was the first casualty of the day, Gert Andersen’s triple fours getting the better of Carroll’s pair of aces. Phil Nguyen got caught out by Paul Snead’s pocket jacks, while Niklas Flisberg lost out to Joe Bishop’s higher card.
Paul Snead lost a huge pot to Scott Montgomery on a rivered ace, and was then eliminated on Craig Marquis’ AK combo. Brandon Cantu looked in good shape until Peter Eastgate hit a diamond on the river to give him the higher flush, soon followed by last woman standing Tiffany Michelle, who ran into Eastgate’s triple aces.
With the elimination of Dean Hamrick in 10th place, the Main Event final table was set. The ‘November Nine’ will return to Las Vegas in 117 days time on November 9th for the start of the final table. Dennis Philllips remains the chip leader with Ivan Demidov and Scott Montgomery ahead of the chasing pack.
