The third and final step on the 2008 Latin American Poker Tour gets under way later today in Uruguay for the three day $2,500 No Limit Hold’em poker tournament taking place at the luxury Mantra Resort Spa Casino in Punta del Este, 90 miles east of Uruguay’s capital Montevideo.
A total of 351 players are expected to be participating in the event, alongside the likes of Humberto Brenes, Andre Akkari, Chad Brown, Greg Raymer, Barry Greenstein, Vanessa Rousso, and Alexandre Gomes.
The LAPT Punta del Este is the third and final event in the LAPT’s inaugural season, following the successful events held in Rio de Janeiro and San Jose.
Earlier this year Dutchman Julien Nuijten claimed the Rio de Janeiro event capturing $222,940 in prize money over a total of 314 players, while Hungarian Valdemar Kwaysser won the San Jose event and $274,103 against just under 400 players.
The total prize pool for the LAPT Punte del Este event is estimated to be over $850,000 with a first place prize just over $240,000, while the runner-up will claim over $127,000.
