Betsson, the publicly quoted Swedish gaming company that operates the Ongame poker network, has reported a large increase in net sales and operating profit between April and June but saw the number of poker players playing for real money on its network fall in the same period, year-on-year.The group’s net sales increased by 147% to SEK155.7 million (€16.6 million), from SEK63 million in Q2, 2006. Operating profit increased to SEK47.2 million (€5 million), from a SEK12.8 million loss in the same period.
However, the number of active (real money) players on the Ongame network fell 6% to 42,500 from 45,200 a year earlier.
Ongame says it is the largest poker network in the world with close to 12 million registered poker players. It includes Poker Room, Chan Poker, Hollywood Poker, bwin, and bet 24.
At the end of Q2, 2007, the number of registered customers across all platforms, including casino, sportsbook, exchange, and bingo, was 774,000, an increase of 13% compared to Q1, 2007 and an increase of 41% compared to Q2, 2006.
Betsson is established in 14 countries, with Scandinavian countries composing the most important geographical market.
