From a field of 1,397, Duncan Bell has worked his way up to claim the $2,500 No Limit Hold’em Event 13 and the $666,777 first place prize.

Day 1 saw a whole host of poker aficionados take to the tables, but only a few of those would make it through the highly competitive day of poker. Those not making it through the day included Jennifer Tilly, Gavin Smith, Erick Lindgren, Phil Hellmuth, Peter Gould, Brandon Cantu, Humberto Brenes, and T.J Cloutier.

The 137 survivors from Day 1 entered Day 2 looking to make the final table’s play, with only nine making it through. Missing out were Eli Elezra, Chris Ferguson, Vanessa Selbst, Theo Tran, and Adam Katz. Duncan Bell held onto the chip lead going into the final table.

Chip stacks for final table:

Duncan Bell - 1,966,000
Shawn Buchanan - 1,133,000
Steven Merrifield - 1,109,000
Jason Sanders - 1,099,000
Brent Hanks - 755,000
Brent Ditzik - 384,000
Nicolas Levi - 233,000
Ariel Soffer - 191,000
Nathan Doudney - 113,000

Straight away Nicolas Levi was eliminated falling to Steven Merrifield’s triple tens, soon followed by Brent Ditzik. Duncan Bell then had his second elimination of the table knocking out Ariel Soffer, and after 11 hands of poker the table was down to six. Jason Sanders was next to go, another of Bell’s victims.

Steven Merrifield also got in on the act, knocking out Brent Hanks, Shawn Buchanan and finally Nathan Doudney to leave heads-up between Merrifield and Bell. With the lead changing hands several times, the heads-up play was an intriguing battle between two of the form players at the final table. Eventually though it came down to Bell’s pocket aces against Merrifield’s pocket tens. The aces won and Duncan Bell could celebrate his first WSOP title.

Final standings:

Duncan Bell - $666,777
Steven Merrifield - $428,948
Nathan Doudney - $260,261
Shawn Buchanan - $218,491
Brent Hanks - $178,327
Jason Sanders - $139,769
Ariel Soffer - $107,638
Brent Ditzik - $83,540
