David Woo Becomes Latest WSOP Bracelet Winner
June 24th, 2008
The action continues to unfold at the 2008 World Series of Poker with David Woo the latest winner of the coveted WSOP bracelet with his triumph in the $1,500 No Limit Hold’em Event #39. He finished ahead of the field of 2,720 players to take his first bracelet and a cheque for $631,656.
At the beginning of the final table play Thom Werthmann, the only player to have a WSOP bracelet to his name, was the chip leader:
Seat 1 - Eric Beren - 640,000
Seat 2 - David Woo - 1,090,000
Seat 3 - Habib Khanis - 645,000
Seat 4 - Michael Glasser - 495,000
Seat 5 - Curtis Early - 1,225,000
Seat 6 - Jim Paras - 535,000
Seat 7 - Matthew Paras - 675,000
Seat 8 - Thom Werthmann - 1,600,000
Seat 9 - Thanh dat Tran - 1,255,000
First to be eliminated was Jim Paras, falling to David Woo’s full house of twos and jacks. Michael Glasser soon followed as Matt Wood’s ace on the river edged him out, soon followed by Thanh dat Tran who was eliminated by Woo’s flush.
David Woo showed his domination of the final table with the eliminations of both Curtis Early and Thom Werthmann. With both players all-in, Woo called and showed a flopped straight to knock both players out.
Habib Khanis just lost out to Eric Beren’s higher card, but Beren himself was then eliminated by Matt Wood’s higher card to leave heads-up between Wood and Woo. David Woo held the chip lead and never looked back. A completely dominant heads-up display was over when Woo’s pocket tens saw off Woods pair of nines and the title went to David Woo.
