David Benyamine Finally Gets His WSOP Win
June 23rd, 2008
The $10,000 World Championship Omaha Hi-Low Split 9 or Better Event #37 has recently concluded with David Benyamine dominating a final table loaded with poker professionals to claim his maiden WSOP bracelet. With 235 entrants creating a total prize pool of over $2.2 million, David Benyamine takes $535,687 for his efforts.
The final day begun with 18 players returning to the tables hoping to make it through to the final table including the likes of Mike Matusow, Ram Vaswani and Berry Johnston . With Shun Uchida’s elimination in 11th place and Berry Johnston in 10th the final table of nine was set:
Seat 1 - Tony Ma - 310,000
Seat 2 - Jason Gray - 590,000
Seat 3 - Ram Vaswani - 175,000
Seat 4 - Toto Leonidas - 720,000
Seat 5 - David Chiu - 730,000
Seat 6 - Mike Matusow - 195,000
Seat 7 - David Benyamine - 1,200,000
Seat 8 - Greg Jamison - 450,000
Seat 9 - Eugene Katchalov - 300,000
First to be eliminated was two-time WSOP bracelet winner Tony Ma who ran into Toto Leonidas’ higher flush, soon followed out by five-time bracelet winner David Chiu. Ram Vaswani couldn’t cope with Greg Jamison’s two pair of aces and eights, while Eugene Katchalov then fell to Jason Gray.
Three-time bracelet winner Mike Matusow was then knocked out by Leonidas to leave four players left. Leonidas, with one previous WSOP bracelet to his name, was then out to Benyamine, and once Jason Gray was eliminated, it left heads-up between Benyamine and Jamison.
David Benyamine held the chip lead at this stage and completely dominated the play to eventually win his first ever WSOP title with a full house of jacks on tens. This is Benyamine’s third final table of this year’s WSOP.
