Dario Minieri Picks up First WSOP Bracelet
June 19th, 2008
Italian poker pro Dario Minieri has picked up his first WSOP bracelet following his win in the $2,500 No Limit Hold’em/Six Handed Event #31. A total of 1,012 players took part in the event creating a prize pool of over $2.3 million. With his victory Dario Minieri collects $528,418.
At the beginning of the six seated final it was Dario Minieri with the chip lead:
Seat 1 - Kevin Song - 1,173,000
Seat 2 - Justin Filtz - 891,000
Seat 3 - Dario Minieri - 1,721,000
Seat 4 - Stuart Marshak - 183,000
Seat 5 - John O’Shea - 589,000
Seat 6 - Seth Fischer - 508,000
Stuart Marshak was first to be eliminated, his pair of queens coming up short against Justin Filtz’s pocket kings. Next to go was John O’Shea who just missed out on a straight draw and lost to Seth Fischer’s triple aces.
Kevin Song, the only player on the final table to have a WSOP bracelet, was then eliminated by Dario Minieri’s pair of aces to leave just three players at the table. It took a while for the next elimination, with the play spread evenly between the three remaining players, but eventually Justin Filtz moved all-in with Fischer calling. Filtz had the better hand with pocket aces against Fischer’s A K, but a king on the flop and another on the turn gave Fischer the hand and left heads-up play between Minieri and Fischer.
After an evenly contested heads-up final something had to give. Finally Fischer called all-in with Minieri calling. Minieri’s pocket queens held up to give him victory and send his Italian supporters wild with celebration.
Final Standings:
Dario Minieri - $528,418
Seth Fischer - $330,519
Justin Filtz - $214,139
Kevin Song - $141,983
John O’Shea - $98,923
Stuart Marshak - $73,784
