Daniel Negreanu Wins Fourth WSOP Bracelet
June 13th, 2008
Daniel Negreanu has won his fourth WSOP bracelet at the $2,000 Limit Hold’em Event 20, the same event where he won his last bracelet back in 2004. With 479 entrants on Day 1, Daniel Negreanu, one of the most popular poker pro’s in the world today, overcame them all to be the last man standing and claim the $204,434 first place prize.
Negreanu, who has now cashed in three events in this year’s WSOP, began the final day third in chips behind David Baker and Ugur Marangoz:
David Baker - 409,000
Ugur Marangoz - 402,000
Daniel Negreanu - 308,000
Greg Wohletz - 301,000
Richard Li - 195,000
Derek Lerner - 133,000
Fu Wong - 67,000
Hien Tran - 58,000
Jeremy Kottler - 47,000
On the fourth hand of play Hien Tran became the first players to be eliminated from the final table, unable to better Fu Wong’s jacks full of nines. Derek Lerner then fell to Daniel Negreanu’s pair of sixes, before Greg Wohletz was eliminated by Wong’s pocket jacks.
Jeremy Kottler then found himself all-in up against David Baker, a nine on the river bringing Kottler’s run in this event to an end. Fu Wong, runner-up in Event 14 of this year’s WSOP, was eliminated next in 5th place by Negreanu’s jacks to leave only four players remaining. Richard Li was then knocked out by Ugur Marangoz’s pocket nines, and when Negreanu’s straight put an end to Baker’s tournament hopes, it was down to heads-up play.
A heart flush gave Negreanu a massive chip lead against Marangoz and soon after Marangoz was all-in. Negreanu’s triple fives won him the title and his fourth WSOP bracelet.
