The Canadian Poker Tour has announced that it has entered into a strategic marketing alliance with the World Poker Showdown to enhance and promote each others series of events. The Canadian Poker Tour (CPT) is launching its 2008 season with the first event beginning today in Alberta, Canada with the Calgary Classic at the Cash Casino.

There will be a series of tournaments across the country in which winners from each main event will qualify for the televised CPT Invitational Finals to be held between January 20th-22nd 2009 as part of the World Poker Showdown’s series of events held at the Ocean World Casino in the Dominican Republic.

Over the past 5 years the World Poker Showdown has held a number of poker tournaments in exotic locations throughout the Caribbean and southern Central America.

President and CEO Herb Van Dyke said: "We are excited to be associated with the Canadian Poker Tour and its players and see a tremendous opportunity to provide Canadians with innovative poker destination getaways that can offer fun for the whole family. By hosting the CPT Invitational Finals, Canadian champions can bring friends and family to vacation together while offering a series of tournaments."

The CPT looks to host 12-14 tournaments across Canada that will all be qualifying events for the CPT Finals. All main event winners will automatically qualify for the Finals, as will the top CPT points leader from the 2008 season.

As well as receiving a share of the total prize pool, the winner of the CPT Finals will earn a year long sponsorship contract to represent the CPT in a series of events internationally including the WSOP Main Event, the European Poker Tour, the World Poker Showdown and a number of Canadian Poker Tour Events.

The CPT is currently finalizing further events in Canada from Vancouver to Halifax. The Calgary Classic at the Cash Casino runs until June 29th, with the next event in the Canadian Poker Tour scheduled for the Stampede Classic on July 4th-13th at the Deerfoot Inn & Casino, Calgary.
