The $10,000 World Championship Mixed Event, a brand new event for this year’s WSOP, has a new champion following Anthony Rivera’s victory. The 22 year old saw off his opponents, who had six WSOP bracelets between them, to claim his maiden tournament win at the eighth event of this year’s WSOP.

The final table chip stacks looked like this at the start of play:

Matt Glantz - 1,150,000
James Mackey - 742,000
Tom Dwan - 642,000
Michael DeMichele - 434,000
Sam Farha - 374,000
Anthony Rivera - 274,000
Jeff Madsen - 149,000
Eli Elezra - 76,000

2006 WSOP Player of the Year Jeff Madsen couldn’t find any form in the final table becoming the first player to be eliminated, while online poker pro Tom Dwan also failed to get anything going and was next out.

Sam Farha was caught out by Eli Elezra, and Elezra himself was eliminated next by Michael DeMichele leaving four to play. DeMichele then got ousted by Anthony Rivera, and when Matt Glantz was eliminated by James Mackey, it left heads-up between Rivera and Mackey.

In the very next hand, Mackey moved all-in showing A (Clubs) 9 (Hearts). Rivera called with A (Spades) K (Hearts) and with no help from the flop it was Rivera who was crowned champion.
A total of 192 players took part in this unique mixed event that combines eight different limit, no limit and pot limit variations.

Final Standings:

Anthony Rivera - $483,688
James Mackey - $297,792
Matt Glantz - $184,992
Michael DeMichele - $139,872
Eli Elezra - $108,288
Sam Farha - $85,728
Jeff Madsen - $67,680
Tom Dwan - $54,144
