Brazilian Alexandre Gomes has won the $2,000 No Limit Hold’em Event #48 over a total of 2,317 players giving him a prize of $770,540 to go with his first WSOP bracelet.

At the start of the final table Marco Johnson was the chip leader, ahead of Gabe Costner and Kirill Gerasimov:

Seat 1 - Dan Rome - 650,000
Seat 2 - Ryan D’Angelo - 520,000
Seat 3 - Marco Johnson - 2,135,000
Seat 4 - Kirill Gerasimov - 1,145,000
Seat 5 - Robert Brewer - 1,050,000
Seat 6 - Gabriel Costner - 1,475,000
Seat 7 - Alan Cutler - 535,000
Seat 8 - Alexandre Gomes - 1,075,000
Seat 9 - Sverre Sundbo - 685,000

First to leave the final table was Dan Rome who ran into Ryan D’Angelo’s pocket aces. Gabe Costner then lost out to Robert Brewer’s higher kicker card, before Sverre Sundbo fell to D’Angelo’s pair of aces.

Kirill Gerasimov was next to go, his pocket jacks not enough against D’Angelo’s aces. He was soon followed by Alan Cutler whose pocket queens were bested by Marco Johnson’s triple fives. D’Angelo then knocked out Robert Brewer with triple kings to leave just three players left. With D’Angelo’s elimination at the hands of Alexandre Gomes, it was down to heads-up play.

Gomes had a chip lead of nearly 3:1 at the start of heads-up and Johnson began closing the gap winning some big pots. In the end it was Gomes who won it, his pair of aces holding up for victory and his first golden bracelet. Marco Johnson has the consolation prize of a cheque for $491,273.
