2008 WSOP $5,000 Mixed Hold’em (Limit/No Limit) Event 4 Day 1

By News Provider
June 3rd, 2008

Event four of the 2008 WSOP has also started play with the $5,000 Mixed Hold’em (Limit/No Limit) event. This was the curtain raiser in last year’s WSOP with 21 year old Steve Billirakis defeating Greg Mueller and 449 other entrants to take the $536,287 winner’s cheque and become the youngest ever WSOP bracelet winner.

Taking part in Day 1 of the event was Event 1 winner Nenad Medic, alongside established pro’s Daniel Negreanu, Ted Lawson, Greg Raymer, Freddy Deeb, Doyle Brunson, John Duthie, Humberto Brenes, Andy Bloch, and defending champion Steve Billirakis.

With only 91 of the 332 entrants making it through to Day 2, eliminations came thick and fast during play. Those not surviving the cut included Chad Batista, Barry Greenstein, eight-time WSOP bracelet winner Erik Seidel, five-time winners Phil Ivey and Allen Cunningham, Jennifer Harman, David Chiu, and Phil Hellmuth.

Event 1 champion Nenad Medic failed to repeat his early tournament heroics and crashed out on the last hand of Day 1 play. The 91 survivors will take to the tables for Day 2 tomorrow with Jon Turner holding the chip lead.

Day 2 chip stacks:

Jon Turner - 100,200
Ariel Schneller - 99,500
Ron Kevin Haeri - 92,300
Adam Westell - 82,800
Justin Bonomo - 73,900
Jay Rosenkrantz - 72,500
Jason Dewitt - 70,100
David Williams - 67,000
Gavin Griffin - 65,800
Thomas Keller - 63,500
