The first of the PokerRace Trophy semi-finals took place last month at Curitiba, Brazil with one qualifier booking his place in the $500,000 Vienna final. The semi-final events are giving players an opportunity to play trackside at some of the most famous racetracks around the world during this season’s FIA World Touring Car Championship events.

The players received full VIP treatment with exclusive access to behind-the-scenes action in the pits and premium seats for the races. The final 8 players had already fought off 100,000 online opponents to get this far but they still had an eye a place in the final with $500,000 up for grabs and a minimum cash out of $10,000 guaranteed.

However it was 22yr old Latvian, under the name ‘4erkess’ who defeated the 7 other winners from online qualifiers at PokerRoom.com, and made it through to the first ever PokerRace Trophy Series final in November.

The PokerRace Trophy semi-finals now moves onto Valencia (Spain), Brno (Czech Republic), Brands Hatch (UK), Oschersleben (Germany), and Monza (Italy), before the final in Vienna on November 29th 2008.

Incidentally, 38yr old Frenchman Yvan Muller, runner-up last year in the FIA World Touring Car Championship, won the opening race of the season at Curitiba.
