2008 WSOP $1,500 Pot Limit Hold’em Freezeout Event 3 Day 1

By News Provider
June 3rd, 2008

The third event of the 2008 WSOP commenced play yesterday with the $1,500 Pot Limit Hold’em Freezeout event. Last year’s event saw Michael Spegal defeat Gavin Smith and 779 other entrants for $252,290 in prize money along with the golden bracelet. This year’s numbers were expected to better last year’s success.

Aiming to prove their worth were a host of poker pro’s including Tim Vance, Lee Watkinson, Men Nguyen, Jason Mercier, Greg Raymer, Alex Kravchenko, Erik Seidel, and JC Tran.

Jimmy Fricke was one who would not be making it through to Day 2’s play, nor would Andy Bloch, Jennifer Tilly, Roy Winston, EPT Copenhagen winner Tim Vance, Michael Mizrachi, and poker legend Billy Baxter.

With a total of 713 players taking part in Day 1, less than expected, only 63 made it through to Day 2. Heading up the chip count is Robert Workman with Philip Yeh and David Singer, who also cashed in Event 2 earlier in the day, close behind.

Chip stacks for Day 2:

Robert Workman - 146,800
Philip Yeh - 143,000
David Singer - 123,600
Bobby Law - 85,500
Scott Seiver - 71,200
Jacobo Fernandez - 69,100
Ryan Fair - 67,700
Al Barbieri - 63,500
Justin Young - 63,200
Russell Harriman - 61,800
