2008 WSOP $1,500 No Limit Hold’em Event 2 Day 2

By News Provider
June 3rd, 2008

Following yesterday’s record breaking 3,929 total entrants for Day 1 of the 2008 WSOP $1,500 No Limit Hold’em event, Day 2 saw the remaining 447 players return to the table looking to at least beat the bursting of the money bubble, coming in at 379th place for this event.

With the chip lead for Day 2 was David Bach, just ahead of Alan Puzantyan and David Robertson, with a plethora of poker pro’s in the mix behind. The restart broke another WSOP record as it was reported by Tournament Director Jack Effel to be the largest restart outside of a main event in WSOP history.

Those eliminated after the money bubble burst included Todd Branson, son of poker legend Doyle, Gavin Griffin, Erica Schoenberg. Arnaud Mattern, and David Singer. All would receive at least $2,950 for their efforts.

With the tournament organisers announcing that play would continue until the final table of nine was decided, everyone braced themselves for a long night at the tables. After over 10 hours of play there were still over 50 players at the tables.

Play continued into the early hours of this morning with many players complaining of fatigue but the eliminations slowly but surely kept going. Out went Marvin Bulkholder, last lady standing Pia Jeppesen, Andre Boyer, Thomas Fuller, and Ryan D’Angelo.

With 18 players still remaining and the sun beginning to mark the start of a new day, the tournament organisers agreed to take a vote on whether to continue playing or suspend play until later in the day. The majority voted to retire for the night, or what was left of it. As it stands Theo Tran is the chip leader ahead of Aaron Coulthard and Josh Engerdahl.

Chip stacks for Final Day’s play:

Theo Tran - 1,557,000
Aaron Coulthard - 1,347,000
Josh Engerdahl - 1,115,000
James Akenhead - 1,100,000

Eric Hicks - 788,000
