2008 WSOP $1,500 No Limit Hold’em Event 2 Day 1b

With a further 1,881 players entering the fray for Day 1b of the second event of the 2008 WSOP, the $1,500 No Limit Hold’em event has broken the record for total number of participants in a WSOP preliminary event.
Adding to yesterday’s 2,048 entrants, the total number of players comes to 3,929, beating the record of 3,151 players set last year in Event 49. Overall this is the fourth largest field ever in a WSOP event, behind only the main events of 2005, 2006, and 2007. The prize pool amounts to $5,363,085 with a $831,462 awarded for a first place finish.
Amongst those expected to dominate proceedings were regular poker aficionados Scotty Nguyen, Chris Ferguson, Lee Watkinson, Jonathan Little, Jennifer Tilly, and former WSOP main event champions Carlos Mortensen, Jamie Gold, and Jerry Yang.
Those not making it through to Day 2 included Allen Cunningham, Lee Markholt, Eli Elezra, Michael Mizrachi, Roland de Wolf, Scotty Nguyen, Erick Lindgren, and Phil Hellmuth.
Also out is actor Mekhi Phifer, WPT interviewer Kimberley Lansing, former world champion Berry Johnston, David Pham, Jennifer Harman, and Carlos Mortensen.
Only 221 players survived the day to join the previous day’s 225 to total 446 players for Day 2 tomorrow. David Bach is the chip leader, just ahead of Alan Puzantyan and Pat White.
