2008 WSOP $1,500 No Limit Hold’em Event 2 Day 1a
June 1st, 2008
The second event of the 2008 World Series of Poker has begun in Las Vegas with the $1,500 No Limit Hold’em event. With an estimated 3,000 players expected to show up, records were there to be broken at this WSOP event.
The first day’s play has been split into two first days. In action on Day 1a were 2,048 players including familiar poker pro’s Ted Forrest, Jeff Madsen, Phil Ivey, Freddy Deeb, Todd Brunson, Greg Raymer, and Vanessa Rousso.
Some of those who wouldn’t make it through the day included Tom Schneider, winner of two bracelets in last year’s WSOP, Daniel Negreanu, Antonio Esfandiari, Thor Hansen and seven-time bracelet winner Billy Baxter.
With the huge field being knocked down to only 225 survivors from Day 1a, eliminations came thick and fast. 2004 WSOP main event champion Greg Raymer couldn’t last the day, nor could Men Nguyen, Phil Ivey, Johnny Chan, or Erik Seidel.
At the end of Day1a David Robertson held the chip lead, ahead of Ryan D’Angelo and Frank Sinopoli.
Chip stacks at the end of Day 1a:
David Robertson - 109,100
Ryan D’Angelo - 105,800
Frank Sinopoli - 103,900
Shane Schleger - 89,000
Henry Tran - 80,300
John Carlson - 80,200
Grant Hinkle - 77,800
Scott Montgomery - 76,800
Cameron Main - 65,500
James Akenhead - 65,100
