The first event of the 2008 World Series of Poker has moved onto Day 2 with the $10,000 World Championship Pot Limit Hold’em event starting to heat up with a host of poker players hoping to make the cut for the final day’s play tomorrow.

Leading the way after the first day’s play was Eli Elezra with a healthy chip lead over Amit Makhija and Nenad Medic, albeit with a number of poker pro’s queuing up ominously behind them, including Patrik Antonius, Phil Laak, and Andy Bloch.

The 70 remaining players from the previous day’s play took to the tables and the action began immediately, Jennifer Harman, Chris Ferguson, Humberto Brenes, and Anna Wroblewski all eliminated early on failing to reach the money bubble at 36th place for this event.

Other players knocked out inside the money bubble included David Bach, Ted Lawson, and Dustin Woolf, who would all be taking home at least $23,162. Day 1 chip leader Eli Elezra kept his form up during Day 2 until he ran into Mike Sowers, who took one hand to severely dent Elezra’s stack and then another hand shortly after to eliminate him in 19th place.

2008 Aussie Millions champion Alexander Kostritsyn was another to hit the road, along with David Benefield, and John Kabbaj. After 15 hours of play the final nine players was decided. Way out on his own with the chip lead is Andy Bloch, with Nenad Medic and Mike Sexton behind, and Phil Laak and Patrik Antonius still in with a chance to fight for the title tomorrow.

Chip stacks for final table:

Andy Bloch - 2,115,000
Nenad Medic - 1,200,000
Mike Sexton - 1,130,000
Mike Sowers - 675,000
Amit Makhija - 525,000
Chris Bell - 455,000
Phil Laak - 425,000
Kathy Liebert - 285,000
Patrik Antonius - 230,000
