2008 WSOP $10,000 World Championship Main Event - Day1d Update

The last remaining poker players finally got started in the 2008 WSOP Main Event as Day 1d got under way, the final part of the Day 1 tetrology. Survivors from the 2,461 entrants on Day 1d will join the remaining players for a place in Day 2 of the Main Event on Tuesday.
The total entrants in the Main Event totals 6,844 creating a prize-pool of over $64 million, with first place guaranteed a cool $9.12 million. Last year’s event saw 6,358 entrants creating a prize pool of just under $60 million, with Jerry Yang winning $8.25 million.
Those joining in on the action included Antonio Esfandiari, Tom Schneider, Layne Flack, Doyle Brunson, current champion Jerry Yang, John Phan, Allen Cunningham, Men Nguyen, 2001 champion Carlos Mortenson, Gus Hansen, Chris Ferguson, and Johnny Chan.
Those players who wouldn’t be staking a claim for the WSOP bracelet included Tim Vance, whose flopped straight was beaten by Ray Henson’s heart flush. Andy Bloch also flopped a straight but lost out to Ken Costanzo’s full house, while John Phan, Jennifer Tilly, Chris Ferguson, Todd Brunson, and Michael Mizrachi were all also eliminated.
A total of 1,422 survived the day to join the rest of the survivors from Day 1, making a total of 3,663 lplayers eft for Day 2, when the action will really start to heat up. The WSOP bracelet edges closer, as does the $9.12 million first place prize, while this year the money bubble will earn whoever finishes above 666th place a minimum $21,320.
