2008 WPT World Championships – Days 4 & 5 Update

The action has been heating up at the WPT World Championships this week in Las Vegas as the final table proceedings nears and a new champion due to be announced. At the start of Day 4 play there were 55 players still in with a shout of the coveted title.

Gus Hansen was the chip leader going into Day 4, ahead of Cory Carroll and David Chiu, but with some big name poker players still in the hunt, plenty of twists of turns were still expected. Some of those who players who wouldn’t make it any further included Tim Phan, J.C. Tran, Men Nguyen, and former WPT World Champions Martin de Knijff and Carlos Mortensen.

Amir Vahedi became the new chip leader as 17 players moved onto Day 5 and even closer to the final table and a chance to be the 2008 WPT World Champion.

Chip stacks for the start of Day 5:

Amir Vahedi - 3,907,000
Gus Hansen - 2,929,000
Tom Dwan - 2,874,000
David Tran - 2,543,000
Jeff King - 1,903,000

The pressure began to take its toll as Day 5 got under way, with players keeping one eye on surviving through to make the final table. Those that fell by the wayside include Andy Black, Nick Binger, David Tran, Robert Mizrachi, Bryan Devonshire, Kenny Tran, Tom Dwan, and Amir Vahedi.

As the WPT World Championships heads to the final table Gus Hansen has regained the chip lead, but will it be enough to crown him champion…?
